3 reasons why you need to store your content in the cloud.

There is nothing worse than that feeling of dread when you realise that your phone has been lost or stolen, and with it, your 1000s of photos, and photos that include milestone events, such as the birth of your children.

Or that time you were at University writing your dissertation, almost coming to a finish, and your hard drive crashed. The piece of work that you spent months perfecting had been lost forever.

Nothing cuts quite as deep as realising your content has been permanently lost.

Lots of us are now familiar with backing up our content in the cloud – many of us use email providers with which we can access our emails from anywhere as they are stored in the ‘cloud’. We may also use services such as Dropbox to store files.

But if you are not storing your content in the cloud, here are three reasons why you should:

1. Available ‘on demand’ from anywhere

Unlike files that are stored on your computer’s hard drive, files and content that are stored in the ‘cloud’ are available from anywhere providing you have an internet connection. This means that whether you are using your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop, and are situated at the office, at home, or on a beach in the med, you can access the same information.

2. Additional capacity is readily available.

The hard drive of your computer can only hold a finite amount of information, you may consider portable external hard drives, but these also only hold a certain amount of information. You may find yourself having content stored in multiple locations, for example, on your hard drive, external hard drives and multiple USB sticks which makes organising and finding your content difficult. By opting for a cloud service, it is usually a straightforward process to increase the capacity of space you require, increasing and decreasing it as you go, ensuring you are only paying for what you use. It also tends to be less expensive that on-premises storage solutions.

3. Security

By storing your content in the cloud, you are securing it. There is minimal risk of losing your content, and quite often data is backed up far more regularly than you would do yourself. Cloud providers also often store your content in an encrypted form meaning it is more difficult for hackers to potentially access.

Here at YourArchive your content is always secure. Your data is secured in the cloud using the Microsoft Azure services. It is backed up regularly and we keep backups for several months. If you stop using YourArchive, we will keep the data for up to 3 months and we can also send you a raw dump of all your archive content via a file transfer service.
